DCED Secretary Davin Joins Senator Vogel for Tour of State-Supported Zelienople Community Revitalization
Harrisburg, PA – Today, Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) secretary Dennis Davin joined local leaders and Senator Elder Vogel for a tour of state-supported community revitalization projects in Zelienople, Butler County.
“Tours like this one demonstrate what is possible when the private and public sectors come together with a shared vision to make communities stronger,” Secretary Davin said. “Zelienople is clearly on the rise, and I appreciate Senator Vogel inviting me out here today to see exactly how DCED funding is helping this community thrive.”
The tour included a visit to the streetscape improvement projects on Zelienople’s Main Street. The projects included the removal of the deteriorated street corridor infrastructure system and the completion of comprehensive capital improvements to revitalize Zelienople’s unique character while retaining the historic character of the community.
The department supported the borough’s revitalization through several programs including the Keystone Communities program and the Multimodal Transportation Fund program, as well as the Redevelopment Assistance Capital program. Most recently, in 2016, Zelienople was approved for $1 million in Multimodal Transportation funding to make streetscape improvements within the central business district along Main Street.
“I appreciate Secretary Davin visiting Zelienople to see the revitalization efforts that have occurred and to learn about future plans,” said Senator Vogel. “As Zelienople becomes a destination for specialty shops and restaurants, downtown will provide benefits for the region as a whole. I look forward to seeing more visitors here.”
