Boyertown Area Fire and Rescue Formed to Save Municipalities Money; Improve Service

With technical assistance from the Governor’s Center for Local Government Services (GCLGS), the Keystone Steam Fire Company No. 1, Friendship Hook and Ladder and Liberty fire companies in Berks County have consolidated operations into a single company to improve services and reduce costs to taxpayers. The new organization will be known as the Boyertown Area Fire and Rescue (BAF&R).

The newly formed organization will eliminate duplicate equipment and apparatus which will result in an extensive cost savings. The consolidated company will have more than 100 volunteers that will allow the unified company to improve its emergency response time and service to Boyertown Borough, Colebrookdale Township and parts of Douglass Township.
