Attracting International Investment at the SelectUSA Summit
This past June, DCED’s Office of International Business Development (OIBD) headed to Washington D.C. to attend the annual SelectUSA Investment Summit, the highest-profile national event dedicated to attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) in the United States. Featuring senior government officials, C-Suite business executives, and other decision-makers and thought leaders, each summit focuses on a timely theme related to the U.S. investment environment, industry trends, and new opportunities. OIBD worked with eight local and regional partners from across Pennsylvania to meet with international companies and develop new leads for FDI projects, including:
Together, Pennsylvania and its partners engaged with dozens of international companies from more than 50 markets. During the Summit, Governor Tom Wolf issued a proclamation: the Open Investment Policy Statement. This proclamation formally commits Pennsylvania to establishing a welcoming environment for investment from global companies, providing support to ensure success of companies investing in the state.
The SelectUSA Investment Summit and the Governor’s Proclamation have provided another platform for Pennsylvania to convey the strong support available for business investment from abroad. Pennsylvania welcomes investors of all sizes, including established multinationals, small or medium-sized enterprises, and high-growth startups. The governor’s proclamation underlines OIBD’s consistent efforts to attract and retain international companies by engaging with businesses while showcasing the advantages Pennsylvania offers, including a skilled workforce, high quality of life, world-ranked academic and research institutions, and a strategic location in the heart of the East Coast.
Bolstered by this public commitment and the engagement they experienced at the summit, OIBD will continue to develop international projects and build partnerships with local and international organizations to foster economic growth in the commonwealth.
