Wolf Administration Tours State-Supported Tech-Focused Business Incubator in Honesdale, Wayne County
Honesdale, PA – Today, Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Deputy Secretary of Technology and Innovation Sheri Collins toured the Stourbridge Project, a tech-focused business incubator in Honesdale, Wayne County.
“The Stourbridge Project is a unique venture accomplished through partners who have a vision of advancing the entrepreneurial spirit of the community,” said Deputy Secretary Collins. “The state is always thrilled to support these types of projects.”
Built into a renovated 1920s elementary school, the Stourbridge Project provides local entrepreneurs coworking and incubation space, as well as access to a digital media studio and prototyping lab. The more than 70 training sessions offered since 2017 have provided education on using the incubator’s 3D printers, music and video recording software, GIS mapping and CAD software, and design and animation equipment, as well as other technology and business-focused subjects. Ten businesses have been assisted in the prototyping lab, and eight tenants have created or retained 17 jobs through use of the incubator space.
The incubator meets multiple goals of the Wolf Administration, including increasing access to high-speed internet, workforce development, and job creation. The project was supported by the state through the Monroe County Local Share Account, the creation of a Keystone Innovation Zone, and the Ben Franklin Technology Partners Network.
“The Stourbridge Project is a unique and highly-collaborative model for providing access to technology and business incubator services in a rural community,” stated Mary Beth Wood, executive director of Wayne Economic Development Corporation. “The Wolf Administration has been a key partner in its development through both their financial support and the recognition that innovation can take place in rural communities that have the proper infrastructure and investment.”
