Wolf Administration: Stuffed Puffs Expansion Demonstrates Pennsylvania’s Place as Food Manufacturing Leader
Harrisburg, PA – Today, Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Secretary Dennis Davin and Executive Deputy Secretary Neil Weaver celebrated the success of Pennsylvania’s food manufacturing industry at the opening of Stuffed Puffs, a confectionary food processor in Northampton County. The project, announced by Governor Tom Wolf last week, will support the creation of 134 new, full-time jobs in the commonwealth.
“Pennsylvania has a longstanding reputation in food manufacturing—creating and distributing food, sweets, and more that are nationally recognized and loved by consumers,” said Sec. Davin “We are thrilled to welcome a new confectionery manufacturer to our state and for the Lehigh Valley region to flourish with new job opportunities.”
In Pennsylvania, the food manufacturing industry has a rich and established past. Known as the “snack food capital of the world” our 2,300 food processing companies are number one among the 50 united states in the value of shipments, canned fruit, and vegetable specialty products, chocolate and cocoa products, and potato chips, and pretzels. The snack food and confectionery industries in the commonwealth generate more than $5 billion in annual sales, and export more than $60,000 annually to other countries.
Stuffed Puffs received a funding proposal from the Department of Community and Economic Development for a $670,000 Pennsylvania First grant, $268,000 in Job Creation Tax Credits, and $140,400 in grants for workforce training and development. The project was coordinated by the Governor’s Action Team, an experienced group of economic development professionals who report directly to the governor and work with businesses that are considering locating or expanding in Pennsylvania.
Stuffed Puffs is a confectionery manufacturer that uses a custom-designed and highly secretive manufacturing process to make chocolate filled marshmallows. The company also can make multiple shapes and flavors of marshmallows with various fillings. Stuffed Puffs initially launched its product exclusively at Walmart stores, but has since expanded to all retailers nationwide.
