Wolf Administration Celebrates Groundbreaking of State-Funded Aerospace Industry Manufacturer
Lake City, PA – Today, Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Secretary Dennis Davin joined AirBorn officials and local leaders to break ground on their new expansion project in Lake City Borough, Erie County. The project, made possible by the Governor’s Action Team, will help the company build space for new projects for the defense and medical industries, and support the combined creation and retention of 389 jobs in the area.
“The Wolf administration is committed to making investments like this, that create significant economic impact all across the region, and help Pennsylvania become a leader in innovation,” Secretary Davin said. “We applaud AirBorn for their commitment to strengthening the workforce and the communities of Erie.”
The company’s expansion project includes the construction of a 30,000 square-foot extension onto its Lake City Borough manufacturing facility, and the purchase of machinery and equipment to increase production. AirBorn plans to invest more than $3.7 million into the project, which is expected to create 249 new, full-time jobs and retain 140 existing jobs over the next three years. Jobs range from production assemblers to quality control and production maintenance personnel. The project is being supported by the Wolf Administration through the Pennsylvania First and WEDnet grant programs, as well as a low-interest loan through the Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority.
“The workforce in Lake City and Erie County have proven to be an asset to AirBorn,” said Jennifer Nelson, vice president of Operations and Supply Chain Management at AirBorn. “Our investment in the community brings not only new jobs but the opportunity to build a career at our employee-owned company.”
Founded in 1958, AirBorn provides design and manufacturing of specialized electronics for the aerospace, defense, medical, industrial automation and energy sectors. AirBorn operates 10 facilities, with eight in the U.S., one in Canada, and one in the U.K.
