Wolf Administration Celebrates Groundbreaking of Significant Development Project on Erie Bayfront
Erie, PA – Today, Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Secretary Dennis Davin joined local leaders in breaking ground on the first phase of the state-supported Harbor Place development project, a mixed-use residential and commercial center on Erie’s Bayfront that will draw businesses, investors, residents, and visitors.
“In the past few years, Erie has shown remarkable resiliency, and its public and private sectors have truly come together with one voice to make Erie the best it can be – and today’s groundbreaking is another example of Erie’s progress,” Secretary Davin said. “Governor Wolf is committed to supporting community and business development here in Erie and across the commonwealth, which is why we’re so excited about this Harbor Place project that will create jobs and improve the quality of life for Erie residents.”
Phase one of the Harbor Place project includes the construction of an eight-story hotel. Initial design plans for the rest of the development include a waterfront restaurant, two hotels, office space, retail shops, parking garages, an ice skating rink, outdoor fountains, condominiums, and apartments. The $150 million development was supported by $5 million in funding through the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program.
“Harbor Place will be a major business and community asset for the entire Erie region,” said Erie mayor Joe Schember. “This development will provide jobs and recreational opportunities for Erie residents and will add to Erie’s growing list of attractions for visitors. I am particularly excited because it aligns perfectly with our vision for a world-class downtown and Bayfront.”
“The development of Harbor Place will be a major opportunity for the entire Erie region,” said Nick Scott Sr., president and owner of Scott Enterprises, the project developer. “When completed, Harbor Place will drive tourism dollars directly into the heart of Downtown Erie and will highlight the beautiful Bayfront district to travelers. With opportunities for citizens of Erie to live, work and play, Harbor Place will be a catalyst of economic growth in the area. The support of the commonwealth has been vital to the project, allowing Scott Enterprises to accelerate and expand plans for the development.”
The Harbor Place project is part of the extensive investments the Wolf Administration has made in Erie since 2015.
