Wolf Administration Cabinet Members Continue ‘Jobs That Pay’ Tour at Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport
Williamsport, PA – Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development Secretary Dennis Davin and Department of Labor & Industry Secretary Kathy Manderino today continued the “Jobs that Pay” tour at Pennsylvania College of Technology, to highlight Governor Wolf’s proposals to increase funding for workforce development and employer training initiatives.
“Governor Wolf’s budget bridges the training gap through an increase in support for business-driven job-training programs,” said Davin. “The governor’s budget supports proven strategies to increase the workforce pipeline by providing at least $8 million in funding to support the Workforce and Economic Development Network of Pennsylvania.”
“It was a pleasure to tour and meet with staff and students at Penn College of Technology, which provides remarkable training for in-demand jobs,” said Manderino. “Governor Wolf’s proposal to significantly increase specialized technical education is a pivotal effort to help prepare Pennsylvanians for the jobs that exist today.”
Governor Wolf’s 2015-16 budget proposes a $1.23 million, 7 percent increase for Pennsylvania College of Technology, which also provides workforce-development education and services to assist with the needs of the expanding Marcellus Shale industry.
Additionally, Governor Wolf’s proposals will provide an increase of $25 million to Pennsylvania First to continue to foster investment, job creation and provide support for WEDnetPA, a critical employee training program available to Pennsylvania’s workers. WEDnetPA provides qualified employers with training dollars for new and existing employees through a unique partnership with community colleges, state system universities, and other higher educational institutions.
