Secretary Davin Continues ‘Jobs That Pay’ Tour at Manitowoc Crane, Discusses Wolf Administration’s Efforts to Grow Manufacturing in Pennsylvania
Harrisburg, PA – Today, Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Secretary Dennis Davin continued the ‘Jobs that Pay’ tour at Manitowoc Crane, a manufacturer of cranes and lift solutions, highlighting Governor Tom Wolf’s commitment to supporting Pennsylvania manufacturing.
“The Wolf Administration is committed to continuing our efforts to further strengthen Pennsylvania manufacturing for years to come,” Secretary Davin said. “When we worked with Manitowoc Crane last year to help bring them to Pennsylvania, it was a major success story for the manufacturing sector in the commonwealth. Looking at Manitowoc’s success here one year later shows that we have the infrastructure, workforce, and energy resources to enable our manufacturers to thrive.”
In August 2016, the Governor’s Action Team, an experienced group of economic development professionals who report directly to the governor and work with businesses that are considering locating or expanding in Pennsylvania, coordinated with Manitowoc Crane to announce plans to consolidate an out-of-state site to expand its operations in Pennsylvania and create 250 new jobs over three years. Secretary Davin visited the facility and discussed Pennsylvania’s manufacturing sector with company executives.
“Today’s manufacturing careers require a combination of technical skills, critical thinking ability, and good communication skills,” said Les Middleton, senior vice president of operations at Manitowoc. “These careers pay family-supporting wages and offer challenging work in bright, clean environments building American-made cranes. We are glad to participate in a dialogue with the DCED to get this important message out and support the Jobs That Pay Tour.”
