New State Funding Will Help Modernize and Renovate Corelle Brands Manufacturing Facility
Charleroi, PA – Today, Governor’s Action Team director Brent Vernon was joined by company executives and local leaders to announce a new state grant to modernize Corelle Brands’ manufacturing facility in Charleroi, Washington County. The project will help retain the existing 350 jobs at the facility and is expected to position the plant for future growth.
“This project will bring new and impactful technologies to Corelle’s manufacturing facility,” Vernon said. “By continuing to innovate and invest in this plant, Corelle is reaffirming its commitment to the Charleroi community and ensuring that glassware will continue to be produced here for decades to come.”
The $2.5 million state grant will enable Corelle Brands to modernize and renovate its Charleroi plant that has produced Pyrex glassware for the past 70 years. The project includes rebuilding the existing glass tank, furnace, and brick lining, and replacing with state-of-the-art materials and technology. By modernizing the furnace and implementing other upgrades such as purchasing a parking lot and replacing an electrical substation, the project will increase the plant’s long-term viability and help retain hundreds of jobs. The project is expected to cost approximately $10 million.
Additionally, Department of Labor & Industry Deputy Secretary for Compensation and Insurance Michael Vovakes presented the Governor’s Award For Safety Excellence to company executives. The award was presented in recognition of Corelle Brands’ exemplary employer-employee joint safety programs that result in the achievement of safety excellence.
“Congratulations to our team at the Charleroi plant for receiving this grant from the Wolf Administration and also earning the 2018 Pennsylvania Governor’s Award for Safety Excellence,” said Ken Wilkes, President and Chief Executive Officer of Corelle Brands. “We take great pride in this recognition, and we would like to thank the department and our employees for their commitment.”
Grant funding was provided through the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP). RACP supports critical expansion projects across the commonwealth, with an emphasis on providing opportunities for additional economic development.
