Governor Wolf Announces New Jobs in Berks County Through Expansion of Haven Behavioral Hospital of Eastern Pennsylvania
Harrisburg, PA – Today, Governor Tom Wolf announced that Haven Behavioral Hospital of Eastern Pennsylvania (Haven), a hospital that provides inpatient acute-care treatment programs designed for adults, will be expanding its operations in Reading, Berks County, and will create 38 new jobs.
“It’s always exciting to see Pennsylvania businesses growing and creating jobs, and especially when it’s a business like Haven that provides crucial behavioral health treatment to patients,” Governor Wolf said. “These 38 new jobs will provide family-sustaining wages to the Reading area while furthering the company’s ability to provide its services. It’s a true win-win for the community.”
Haven is currently located in a 40,200-square-foot area with 67 beds within Penn State St. Joseph Hospital. The company currently occupies the third floor and half of the fourth floor. With this expansion, Haven will occupy a majority of the fourth floor, which will add 10,000 square feet and 19 additional beds. Haven will invest at least $1.73 million into the project, and has committed to creating 38 new, full-time jobs and retaining 140 more over the next three years.
“We are extremely pleased to partner with the Governor’s Action Team on this exciting project,” stated Bob Scheffler, CEO at Haven Behavioral Hospital of Eastern Pennsylvania. “This investment reinforces our existing commitment to the community and will allow us to better serve those in need of high quality, specialty behavioral healthcare.”
Haven received a funding proposal from the Department of Community and Economic Development for $114,000 in Job Creation Tax Credits to be distributed upon creation of the new jobs. The project was coordinated by the Governor’s Action Team, an experienced group of economic development professionals who report directly to the governor and work with businesses that are considering locating or expanding in Pennsylvania.
