Governor Wolf Announces Creation of 59 New Northampton County Manufacturing Jobs Through Expansion of Alpla Inc.
Harrisburg, PA – Today, Governor Tom Wolf announced that Alpla Inc., a manufacturer of plastic packaging items, will be expanding its operations into Bethlehem, Northampton County, and will create 59 new jobs.
“Any time a large manufacturing company expands into Pennsylvania, it’s great news for our workers,” Governor Wolf said. “Alpla is bringing 59 new, good-paying manufacturing jobs offering great benefits to Northampton County families, and it will provide a huge boost to the local economy.”
Alpla will be leasing a new 160,000 square-foot facility in Bethlehem to establish a northeast presence to better serve customers in this region of the U.S. The project includes leasehold improvements, the installation of compressors and resin silos, and the acquisition of equipment and computers. Alpla will invest $15.2 million into the project, which will create a total of 59 new jobs over the next three years.
“Alpla is very appreciative of the efforts by the Governor’s Action Team,” said Peter Irby, director of finance at Alpla Inc. “They were responsive to our needs and easy to work with. We are looking forward to our future in the Bethlehem area.”
Alpla received a funding proposal from the Department of Community and Economic Development for a $177,000 Pennsylvania First grant and $177,000 in Job Creation Tax Credits to be distributed upon creation of the new jobs. The company has also been encouraged to apply or a $1.5 million low-interest loan from the Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority (PIDA) to assist with equipment purchases.
The project was coordinated by the Governor’s Action Team, an experienced group of economic development professionals who report directly to the governor and work with businesses that are considering locating or expanding in Pennsylvania.
Founded in Austria in 1955 and entering the U.S. in 2001, Alpla is a manufacturer of plastic bottles and caps.
