DCED Secretary Davin Presents First Northeastern PA IRC Commitment to Manufacturing Award to A. Rifkin Company
Harrisburg, PA – Today, emphasizing Governor Tom Wolf’s strong support for innovation and education in the development of skilled workers in manufacturing, Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Secretary Dennis Davin presented the Northeastern Pennsylvania Industrial Resource Center’s first “Commitment in Manufacturing” award to A. Rifkin Company of Wilkes-Barre.
“In achieving success over 125 years in business, A. Rifkin Company is a shining example of how innovation and education can be key components of economic development,” said Davin. “From work clothing to coal to security bags for banking, the company has capitalized on marketplace changes and now embraces new technology to continue to provide jobs to Pennsylvanians.”
Davin hailed the strong northeastern Pennsylvania business climate that has enabled manufacturers in the region to provide more than 30,000 good-paying jobs and an annual payroll of more than $1.6 billion.
“The region’s proximity to major markets, low cost of living, affordable energy costs, road and rail infrastructure, and proactive economic development community combine to position the region for continued success,” said Davin.
Manufacturing has an $84 billion impact in Pennsylvania, which has the eighth-largest manufacturing industry in the United States. Manufacturing in Pennsylvania employs more than a half-million workers, a labor force earning an average annual wage of nearly $60,000. More than 14,000 manufacturing establishments operate in Pennsylvania, ranging from iconic brands to emerging manufacturers and home goods and tech startups.
The presentation was made at the Regional Manufacturing Showcase and Trade Show at the Radisson Lackawanna Station in downtown Scranton as part of the Pennsylvania Manufacturing Week celebration on the eve of National Manufacturing Day, October 6.
