Governor’s Awards for Local Government Excellence

Awards to honor Pennsylvania’s local government leaders in recognition of exceptional dedication to improving public services through innovative initiatives.

The 2020 Local Government Day Awards that were scheduled for April 6, 2020 have been cancelled. Plans are underway to reschedule the event.
Overview

Each year, one week in April is designated by the PA Legislature as “Local Government Week,” honoring the dedication of Pennsylvania’s local officials and encouraging citizens to learn how local government functions and affects each resident and business in the community. During this week, the Governor’s Center for Local Government Services has made a tradition of hosting a Local Government Day celebration, featuring the presentation of the Governor's Awards for Local Government Excellence to recognize local officials for their successes in undertaking innovative initiatives to improve the quality of life in their communities.

Nominations are Now Closed

Nominations for the 2020 Governor’s Awards are now closed. Thank you to all who nominated a local government leader. Stay tuned for the winners to be announced in the Spring for the 2020 Governor’s Awards.

Nominations for the Governor’s Awards for Local Government Excellence may be submitted for one or more of the following award categories:

Building Community Partnerships Innovative Planning and Sound Land Use Practices
Responding to Adversity Intergovernmental Cooperation
Promoting Community/Economic Revitalization Information Technology
Innovative Community/Governmental Initiatives Health & Wellness Initiatives
Fiscal Accountability and Best Management Practices Individual
