Do participants in the pre-apprenticeship program need to be employed?
No, but the participants do need to be on a pathway that leads to employment. Pre-apprenticeship programs need to be connected to a registered apprenticeship program.
Are matching funds required?
No, matching funds are not required.
Is there a cap on funds to be requested?
Proposals may not exceed $45,000 for a three-year period ($15,000 per year). Each employer is eligible for $3,000 per apprentice, with a max of five apprentices per year.
Who is eligible to apply?
Eligible applicants include: single employer, employer consortiums, workforce development boards, economic development organizations, labor organizations, local career technical education institutions, Pennsylvania community colleges and community organizations or associations. Partnerships and collaboration are highly encouraged.

Is there a deadline to apply?
Applications will be accepted and evaluated on an ongoing basis with awards to be made to eligible applications for as long as funds are available.
What are eligible expenses?
Eligible uses of funds are expenses related to instruction that complements on the job training, delivering the technical as well as academic competencies that apply to the job. Please see the guidelines for a detailed list of eligible expenses.
